New timeslot. No more waking up at 5:10am! 25% less radio every week, which may or may not be a good thing. The 1/22 show is 3 hours of the usual awesomeness. On last week’s show (1/29), I was joined in-studio by former long-time KXLU DJ Bret, who now is a programmer at Cinefamily. We talk about the Post Punk Junk film series he’s curating for all of February. Highly recommended if you’re in the area.
Before being joined by Bret, I played a pre-recorded live set from Philadelphia’s Mincemeat or Tenspeed! He’s loud and awesome, that’s why I didn’t mind coming up on the weekend to record him. His new record Strange Gods is unbelievably great.
Mincemeat or Tenspeed, Live at KXLU:
On the 1/29 show, I accidentally recorded the podcast through the wrong input…so there’s a special treat that was recorded. At KXLU we have two stations, the FM station (KXLU) and the campus-only station KLMU. When nobody’s using the campus only station, it broadcasts KXLU. Through the confusion of how I have to record my podcasts, I mistakenly got my signal from the campus station and got about 2 hours of my actual show and a whole hour of some Loyola Marymount student’s show. I edited his show down to a highlight reel. It’s really delightful, especially at the end of his show when he apologizes to his listeners that he has to put my show back on!
I’m sooooooo looking forward to seeing him next week. If you listen to him, he gives out the number for the campus request line. A clever IVOR-lover would call next Friday around 11am and request something magical.
