Seelenluft is this electronic producer that I pretty much hate except for these two songs THAT ARE TOTALLY AMAZING!
One is his cover of America’s Horse With No Name. (Download it below)
A song and band that I love to hate almost as much as much as my father. See with the exception of songs he played in the church guitar trio, Horse With No Name was the only song he ever played. It is forever stained in my brain for the rest of my life and haunts me to this day. I find myself unconsciously taping my foot to a loop of the chorus every now and again. Then writhe in self loathing for a good 7 min. I its like that dream I have where I’m lost in the dark city and some how end up in this bar that turns out to be a whorehouse, they all know me and start shitting on me but before I realize whats happening, but I’m already getting off on it and there is nothing I can do about it.
But its deeper than that I had a music business class when I was in college. Taught by Phil Heartman’s brother very unfunny brother John. He usta manage Poco, Hot Tuna AND FUCKING AMERICA. Gerry Beckley comes into the class and does a two hour lecture on how to make a hit record.
I am still recovering.
Point is for some reason Sellenluft’s cover is either so good (or bad) that when it’s on I never awake from my musical skat porn wet dreams.
Enough about me,
Here is the other, Manila.
The story goes that Seelenluft found what seems to be Wesley Willis‘ only son, Michael Smith (age 12) in Compton put him on a plane going to Manila and told him to make that airbus a party plane no matter what. Young Smith is the Sully to Seelenluft’s really boring music. Its for sure a crash landing, and totally fucking scary, but everyone lives, gets $5000, something to talk about at parties, and youtube clips to email to your friends. Smiles all around!
This track is party city and was a top 40 hit is Australia!
And if rapping kids is your deal check out Representing NYC. This is the after school program I work for where we get crazy people to make beats for kids in the neighborhoods they live in. Then help them put out the record and get shows. We have the record release for our first release from The Fly Girls at the New Museum TONIGHT. The Fly Girls are 5 female MC’s all under 15 rapping on beats made by Zebrablood from Excepter! Pick it up from True Panther Sound!
p.s. my kids got real skills.
