This song fucking rules so hard. I only got to see Hale Zukas once at The Smell and it made me wish I could have seen them a billion times. They were killer. The massive bell in the photo has a huge role in this track, it’s hard to believe a big bell could make a rock song rock harder, yet it does and the world is better off for it.
I only know two of the three dudes in Hale Zukas. John Benson has spent the past year or so driving his awesome bus around the USA having bands perform in it, sometimes while in motion. He’s been doing that in Oakland for some time now, but bringing it to the nation is truly god’s work. Last I heard, the bus broke down and died in Iowa City or somewhere thereabouts. That’s a shame.
Rob, the bell jangler, came with me and some friends to Baja a few years ago and we camped on the beach next to a huge rusted shipwreck. He brought a terrible girl with him, for which I might never forgive him, but he’s still an amazing guy. Funny as hell. He’s totally famous now. He used to be in Gang Wizard and The Hospitals and now he’s in Eat Skull, touring the world. Awesome!
I know this song has a title, I just don’t know it. Hopefully someone out there will inform me and I’ll make the proper correction. I only know this one as “Track 2″ from their demo they gave me from that one show I saw them at many years ago. The disc had a pink feather taped to it, which I removed and stuck on the dash of my truck. It’s still there. People ask what it’s all about and I say it’s from a badass album from the late, great band HALE ZUKAS! They don’t get it, but you will if you hear this song.
