Nancy Bea Hefley is probably my third favorite Dodger of my lifetime. Yeah, that’s right, the organ player.
Top five Dodgers of my life time: 1. Tommy. 2. Fernando. 3. Nancy. 4. Orel 5. Kirk. (Mickey Hatcher gets an honorable mention).
I grew up loving the Dodgers. My cousins and I went to Dodger baseball camp every summer when we were in grade school. I could never understand why they were Angel fans, and they couldn’t understand why Nancy was in my top five and why I decided to play golf instead of baseball in high school.
Nancy was the cherry on top of a classy Sunday afternoon in Chavez Ravine. Old timey show tunes and baseball classics on an organ just make everything about the game sweeter. Nancy was one of the things that make going to a Dodger game going to a Dodger game.
A few years ago they tired to get rid of her. There was a little bit of a stink put up and they brought her back. But only to play a few songs before the game, the national anthem, and take me out to the ball game during the seventh inning stretch. Dodger fans will now be treated to the latest volumes of Jock Jams as Joe Torre trots out to the hill to have a confrance with his man on the mound. (not classy)
Sports in LA were classy in the 80’s and music was a big part of that. Maybe if they stop playing Who Let the Dogs Out, and put away the kiss cam and brought back the USC marching band to the Laker games Lights Out would look more like Showtime. (the USC band usta take over one of old luxury box’s above the tunnel at the Forum get decked out and play the hits! Now it’s just the horn section and they show up in is aisle looking like a super fan at hooters rather than Jack on the sideline. Not classy)
I guess in the end Kobe will never be Magic and an Ipod will never be Nancy. I think thats why I moved to New York, LA is forgetting how to be classy.
I wrote this cause I thought I found some live recordings of her at analog arts ensemble but I cant seem to get the files to open. O well I guess I’ll just have to settle w/ youtube clips an her CD that I’m about to order.

Come on… don’t discount Orel. He deserves 3rd place, despite how awesome Nancy is.
Nancy is completely over Gibson, though - I rate her 4th all-time myself, and I’m a multiple-year season ticket holder…
