Becky Stark (Live on KXLU)

The first time I saw Becky Stark, she was singing and strumming a tiny acoustic guitar, while standing in the tiny guitar’s case. This was in someone’s living room and she was performing as a duet with noise boy John Wiese. Very surreal. It was a fine introduction to the whimsical and amazing Becky Stark.

I’m really not one for “serious” music, but I make exceptions for certain artists that are just too strange and incredible to resist. I don’t really know what I can say about her that Pitchfork and all the other dickhole reviewers haven’t already imparted upon you, so I won’t try. She’s quite popular now with her band Lavender Diamond, who play some of the songs she plays in this set.

Early 2004, 8am. Becky Stark with Your Host, The International Voice of Reason. One of my all time favorite guests. This is about an hour or more of songs and freeform chatting. She brought up the tiny guitar and a child’s multicolored xylophone toy. Very enjoyable.

PS - I was fortunate enough to have witnessed a psychedelic puppet show she once did with one of her friends. I was completely sober and it was still one of the most insane things I’ve ever seen. They should have made a movie.
