Hip Hop Across America

devin

So after living in the ATL for 2 months people keep asking me about the hip hop there. It was mostly annoying people yelling at me to dance. The entire time I was there the best track I heard was this Devin The Dude (tx) song “What a Job This Is” featuring Snoop Dog (ca) and Andre 3000 (ga). It’s a song for a hot day, a cold beer and lots of weed.

The song is great till Andre starts talking about how it’s wrong to download music for free of the Internet. He asks if we would like it if he would show up to our BBQ and take a couple kernels of corn off our cob. Well yes, yes I would like it. Really is there anyone in America that would be sad if Andre 3000 showed up to your 4th of July BBQ and swiped a bite of your corn. I think if he did it might be my best BBQ ever! So Andre you are invited to the KXLU BBQ today, and you can help yourself to my corn, and I’ll keep stealing your music, deal? DEAL!

Please Mr. 3000 just take the whole thing!

he says… ” but if i come to your job, take your corn on the cob, and take a couple kernels off of it, that would be alright with you??? (HELL NO) EXACTAMUNDO, BUT WE JUST KEEP RECORDING AND IT AINT TO GET NO CONDO” - maybe that will clarify things. its a metaphor using corn, as your piece of the pie, your rations, your food. sorry. but no ones paying bills round here but me, and no ones coming to take mine off my plate but me. thats how i feel personally as a musician.. so im sure thats how he felt when he spoke about that, but he also spoke on when he ran into some fans face to face, and put them in that same song being discussed. listen to it again.
